Loy Norrix hosted the Track Regional meet on Friday under some cold and rainy conditions. In spite of the weather, your Knights performed extremely well.   Both the women’s and men’s teams were in the top third of the region. This 6th place finish for the boys was the best finish in many years and the girls 7th place finish ties last year as the best in many years as well.

Earning medals but not advancing to the State finals were:

Girls and boys 4×200 relays and 4×400 relays

Boys 4×800 relay

Joe Hruska in shot put and discus

Morgan Hawkins in discus

Alexa Davis in the 800 and 1600

Gabe Runyon in the 800

Joe Meyers in the 3200

Sheridan Britney, Lee Jones, and Ryan Ross in the 400

and Arika Hawkins in the 200.

Arika and Nuru Lewis also qualified for the finals in the 200 but did not compete.

Evan Wheat and Zach Skinner were good enough to make it to the state meet in pole vault with heights of 13 feet each. Alex Neal also made the state meet cut in the 110 hurdles with an additional qualifying time of 14.98 seconds.

A big thanks goes out to those who stayed the whole meet to help with the finish line and other events. Those tough and dedicated kids were Yoshiyu Anderson, Brandon Worden, Bill Bowser, Garrett Bloom, Lillia Bistrek, Myles Baker, Sigourney Koprek, Joseph Bamgura, and others.

The MetroHealth Sports Medicine Scholarship Track invitational is going to be held on Wednesday this week. The Varsity Softball team beat Battle Creek Lakeview in game one last night before losing a close game in extra innings. It was a great team effort on offense led by Sydney Apperley. Michaela Whalen and Jess Boer both pitched well. The Lady Knights play Lakeshore at home tomorrow for Senior Knight and will also honor late coach Pat Stier. Go Knights!

In the track meet last night in Mattawan, your Loy Norrix Knights faced off against not only Mattawan, but Battle Creek Central as well. In the double dual, both teams came out victorious…twice. The boys beat Mattawan 112-45 and Battle Creek Central 100.5-50.5. The girls waxed the Wildcats 106-50 and the Bearcats by a score of 111-35. That puts the girls with a dual meet record of 5-1 and the boys 4-2.

Notable personal best times were put in by Bill Bowser in the 400, Joe Meyers and Grace Barrett in the mile, Fletcher Robbins and Sarita Neimenin in shot put, Garrett Bloom in pole vault, Julian Perry in 100 hurdles, Arika Hawkins, Jariah Taylor, and Jasmine Reid in the 100, and Destiny Mabon going over 100 feet in the discus.

The Knights host the Regional track meet on Friday. Come out after school to cheer them on to possible state meet distances and times.

All track members need to come after school to see coach Savicke about Regional assignments. This means Varsity and JV athletes. We need all hands on deck to make the meet run smoothly. Behind 4-2 with two outs in the bottle of the 7th, Yohannes  Ademoni hit a 2 run shot over the left field fence to tie the game. The boys of Spring went on to win the game 5-4. Duncan Wallis pitched 6 great innings and Nathaniel Roberts came in to shut down the cougars in the 7th and 8th and earn the win!

The men’s and women’s teams competed in Gull Lake on Saturday for the SMAC Championship. In spite of some sickness, injuries, and some of our athletes not making the meet, the teams did fairly well. The girl’s team finished 2nd to powerhouse Lakeview and our boys finished 4th, missing 3rd by two points and 2nd by 12 points.

Alysia Smith had personal bests in 100 and 300 Hurdles

Alex Neal won the 110 hurdles
