Loy Norrix hosted the Track Regional meet on Friday under some cold and rainy conditions. In spite of the weather, your Knights performed extremely well.   Both the women’s and men’s teams were in the top third of the region. This 6th place finish for the boys was the best finish in many years and the girls 7th place finish ties last year as the best in many years as well.

Earning medals but not advancing to the State finals were:

Girls and boys 4×200 relays and 4×400 relays

Boys 4×800 relay

Joe Hruska in shot put and discus

Morgan Hawkins in discus

Alexa Davis in the 800 and 1600

Gabe Runyon in the 800

Joe Meyers in the 3200

Sheridan Britney, Lee Jones, and Ryan Ross in the 400

and Arika Hawkins in the 200.

Arika and Nuru Lewis also qualified for the finals in the 200 but did not compete.

Evan Wheat and Zach Skinner were good enough to make it to the state meet in pole vault with heights of 13 feet each. Alex Neal also made the state meet cut in the 110 hurdles with an additional qualifying time of 14.98 seconds.

A big thanks goes out to those who stayed the whole meet to help with the finish line and other events. Those tough and dedicated kids were Yoshiyu Anderson, Brandon Worden, Bill Bowser, Garrett Bloom, Lillia Bistrek, Myles Baker, Sigourney Koprek, Joseph Bamgura, and others.

The MetroHealth Sports Medicine Scholarship Track invitational is going to be held on Wednesday this week. If there are track members who have qualified and would like to compete, come to practice today after school. It is a nice way to end the season in an elite, but no-pressure meet in Comstock Park in Grand Rapids. We have many athletes that qualified. See Coach Schmidt for more details.
